As we learn of the sad news that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed away, the thoughts of the members of Rotary International are with the Royal Family as they grieve for their Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.
The Queen demonstrated extraordinary dedication and commitment to duty throughout her Reign and did so with a graceful strength and admirable determination.
She ruled throughout decades of change, from the dark post-war years, through to the new horizons of the 21st century, providing essential continuity for the nation.
This is a period of public grief when people who do not know each other come together to mourn a national figure who has been consistent throughout our lives and for whom we have collective affection despite not knowing her personally.
We share our condolences to the Royal Family and His Majesty King Charles III at this sad time.
Our very own Jennifer Jones is currently on the Imaging Rotary Canada Tour. In the past week she’s made stops in Whitehorse and Windsor; we’re looking forward to seeing her in Toronto on Tuesday July 5th. Virtually each stop along the tour features a ‘hands-on’ project with Jennifer in action!
This tour gives us a unique opportunity to showcase the essence and diversity of Rotary, and to invite others to be part of our success! For more info, click on the logo.
RI President Jennifer Jones imagines a Rotary where members act to make their dreams become reality and they make the most of their club experiences. She urges members to engage more with each other and use these connections to build partnerships that change the world.

Valarie K. Wafer had a 27-year career as a Tim Hortons restaurant owner, one of Canada's iconic restaurant brands, where her restaurant operations were widely recognized for their inclusive hiring practices, particularly the employment of people with disabilities.
Valarie joined Rotary in 2005. She has served as an RI training, 2018 Toronto Convention Host Organization Committee member, assistant regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, and RI president's representative. She has led a vocational training team focused on youth suicide and depression, audited Rotary Foundation grant projects in Tanzania and Kenya, and volunteered during a 2012 National Immunization Day in India.
Valarie and her husband, Mark — who became a Rotarian after Valarie recruited him during her year as club president — are Paul Harris Fellows, Bequest Society members, and Major Donors to The Rotary Foundation. In 2012, Wafer received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, in recognition of her leadership with the Economic Case for Inclusion in Canada, an inclusive hiring initiative that was adopted by provincial and federal governments.
Collingwood's mayor, Brian Saunderson, joined Rotarian John Saul, at the flagpole at the Collingwood Public Library to hoist the Rotary Flag and proclaim April 1st 2021 as the "Rotary Club of Collingwood - South Georgian Bay Day" in the town of Collingwood.
The flag-raising and proclamation was done to bring awareness to Rotary4KIDS Day of Giving, which takes place April 1 as a radio-thon on 95.1 The Peak FM.
It involves 12 hours of dedicated programming to raise money for local children and youth in the greater Collingwood area.
